Description :
A name, which in French means Turkish, was given to this gem in the thirteenth century. But history of this stone dates back to 5000 BC in Mesopotamia (Iraq) and 5th, 6th century BC in Siberia, Russia. Not being a favorite of Greeks or Romans, it did not catch the fancy of Europeans till the Renaissance period, i.e. seventeenth century as a stone for personal adornments. A gem connected to wealth, it is also said to guarantee accurate aim, if attached to a gun or a bow. Legend has it that it also reveals a wife's infidelity by changing color.
Turquoise comes in rare sky blue and more commonly in green. At times it also has a matrix.
